This recipe assumes you want a Garter Stitch blanket, but the same rules apply for using
other knitting stitches.

To begin
knitting with two circulars, start with the
stitches that were cast on last, just as you would with any
other kind of
knitting.
If you're looking elsewhere for sweater
knitting patterns, look for projects in garter
stitch, Stockinette or
other easy
stitch patterns.
The Garter
Stitch scarf is a classic first project, but here also are some

When you get about 1/3 of the
stitches on the first DPN, continue
knitting with the second DPN... If you want to transfer before
knitting, just slide the
stitches from one needle to the
other.
The
other thing to keep in mind is that yardage estimates for blankets or anything else tend to be based on
knitting Stockinette
Stitch at the standard gauge for that yarn weight.
You can find a
knitting pattern for anything you could possibly want to
knit worked in Stockinette
Stitch, and you can go a lot of your
knitting career only knowing Garter
Stitch, Stockinette and ribbing, though I hope you'll branch out and learn
other things as well!
