This issue gets emotional when I read sensationalistic comments from
other self - proclaimed «
lactivists» who ARE judgmental, narrow and condemning in their views.
The International Code of Marketing Breastmilk Substitutes (known in
lactivist circles as the «WHO Code»), prohibits formula companies from advertising in any conspicuous way: «There should be no advertising or
other form of promotion to the general public of products within the scope of this Code,» proclaims article 5.1 of this policy, coauthored in 1981 by UNICEF and the World Health Organization (WHO).
That's not surprising, since there was never any scientific evidence that it would work in first world countries, just the heartfelt desire on the part of
lactivists to shame and denigrate
other women.
Even though I breastfeed for as long as possible (because I want to, not because I am a sheep that is following the crunchy crowd) I am still waiting for these
lactivist to explain to women what they are supposed to do when they are trying to breastfeed, take care of
other children, and have no support taking care of the household.
If you're going for the guilt, and
lactivist sanctimommies are always going for the guilt, it's best to compare
other mothers» behavior to a heinous crime.
Maybe they can do that on Planet Boob where most of the
lactivists hide out, but here in the real world, most nursing women have
OTHER CHILDREN.
I wonder if these
lactivists would be supporting of it, you know, showing
other parents there are
other options out there.
