nomination went to «Passengers» starring Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence, shutting out
other contenders like «Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.»
Emma Stone (La La Land) and Natalie Portman (Jackie) are all but guaranteed
nominations, with the
other three likely
going to a combination of Adams, Annette Bening (20th Century Women), Ruth Negga (Loving), and Meryl Streep (Florence Foster Jenkins).
Last year, NYFCC winners Casey Affleck and Kenneth Lonergan of «Manchester by the Sea» and Mahershala Ali of «Moonlight»
went on to win Academy Awards, with plenty of
other honorees nabbing Academy
nominations.
Other movies like «The Wolf of Wall Street» and «Django Unchained» have
gone on to multiple Oscar
nominations.
There also happened to be multiple
nominations scored for Boyhood,
Gone Girl, Selma, and Whiplash, among
others.
And even if it is a make - up
nomination for Wall - E, its gonna
go to a mighty fine film and I daresay it will deserve its
nomination more than half of the
other nominees.
Other films with multiple

Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief,» «Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck» and «Best of Enemies.»
The
others are the actresses long considered likely for a Best Actress Oscar
nomination: «Wild» actress Reese Witherspoon, Rosamund Pike of «
Gone Girl,» «Theory» actress Felicity Jones, and Julianne Moore of «Still Alice.»
• January 16th is
going to be insane: Oscar
nominations, Sundance's Opening Night, and the «Critics Choice» ceremony are all taking place within 12 hours of each
other.
With the 800 lb gorilla caged (for the moment) that means good news for
other musicals: She Loves Me, American Psycho, Bright Star and The Color Purple all appear strong
going into the Tony
nominations.
Other times, the Globes give VERY left field
nominations that we know from the get -
go are

The end of the year came and
went since the last rankings update, which meant a handful of round - up posts here at The End: Books (and
Other Words), Film Discoveries, and Endy Award
Nominations.
After cleaning up with various critics groups and
other film - honoring bodies, and
going 1 - 2 at the Los Angeles Film Critics Association awards, commercial juggernauts Wall ▪ E and The Dark Knight both got relegated to somewhat unfortunately expected, consolation - type booby prizes: a Best Animated Feature nod for the former, and a Best Supporting Actor
nomination for Heath Ledger for the latter, among a mess of
other, lesser nods.
Farrell and McDonagh didn't really know each
other before the latter cast the former in In Bruges, which

other famously austere Andrey, Zvyagintsev previously competed at Cannes with «Leviathan» (2014), which won the jury's screenwriting award and
went on to score an Oscar
nomination for foreign - language film.
I'm betting it gets two
nominations for acting, which will be more than any of his
other films (though I'm not sure if the supporting nod will
go to Roberts or Martindale - or maybe even both).
We've also had
nominations for Don Cheadle, Terrence Howard, Will Smith and Gabourey Sidibe since then, and
other wins (in supporting, but still)
went to Morgan Freeman, Jennifer Hudson and Mo'Nique.
I can't imagine the Academy
going for Black Swan in such a big way as the BFCA did, but on the
other hand it could surely rack up quite a few
nominations if they really love it: Picture, Director, Actress, Screenplay, Cinematography, Editing, Costume Design and so on.
Other celebrated auteurs looking for their first Foreign Language
nomination are Belgian brothers Jean - Pierre and Luc Dardenne, who
went home from Cannes empty - handed but whose film Two Days, One Night will likely have their highest stateside profile yet due to the presence of Marion Cotillard in the lead role as a woman who has a single weekend to convince her co-workers to give up their bonuses so she will not be laid off.
2010's Current Affairs IFTA winner The Frontline is shortlisted for the second year running with
other nominations in this category
going to BBC's Spotlight: The Iris Robinson Investigation and programmes from previous IFTA winners Tonight with Vincent Browne and Prime Time Investigates: Forgotten Lives.
The movie is awful, from the script's blending of Southern charm and Jewish slang, to the over-the-top performances by its actors, but when an internet posting begins a rumor that star Marilyn Hack (Catherine O'Hara) should garner an Oscar
nomination come awards time, the film's publicist (John Michael Higgins)
goes into overdrive, generating even more buzz about possible
nominations for its
other two stars, Victor Allen Miller (Harry Shearer) and Callie Webb (Parker Posey).
If they indeed
go 0 - 3 on Sunday and «The Shape of Water» takes the top prize, the fantasy drama will join eight
