bred to be aggressive towards furred animals, some of the
pointers were
bred to be able to guard the hunter's game, etc., etc..
Other breeds, such as boxers, flat - and curly - coated retrievers, border collies, huskies, doberman pinchers, Rhodesian ridgebacks, Australian shepherds, German short - haired
pointers, dalmatians, and even standard poodles, are occasionally used by some programs.
As the German Shorthaired
Pointer is a
breed built for performance, including high - energy outdoor activities like hunting birds and
other small creatures, it is a fairly structurally sound
breed as compared to some of the
other recent best in show winners like the Affenpinscher and Pekinese.
When first described, one of the names given the disease was «chronic osteomyelitis of young German Shepherd Dogs,» but as it was studied in subsequent years,
