You will almost always
find other solo travelers when you hit the spa and you will pretty much never feel odd as a solo traveler.
You will feel welcomed from the moment you arrive and join the group amongst which will be
other solo travelers like yourself.
Sri Lanka may not have as many happy hours, hostels or dorm rooms as southeast Asia does, but what it does have, is heaps of
other solo travelers just like you — especially female ones.
I have also hosted an Indonesian guy, two French couples, a Delhi girl, two Spanish teenagers, a British lad and a
few other solo travelers.
I personally would not travel there by myself, but I heard about positive experiences
from other solo travelers and despite all the precautions I would loooove to visit this gorgeous city again.
Staying in a shared accommodation with
other solo travelers opens a lot of gateways to striking up conversation over breakfast, shared dinner, often times a happy hour, or just in the dorm.
By reading ahead, talking to
other solo travelers and talking to friendly locals in the know, you can either avoid those areas altogether or at a minimum, travel as part of a group and watch out for another.
The best place to start is your hotel — are there
any other solo travelers there?
Hostel lobbies are a wonderful place to meet
other solo travelers and small groups, find people to eat meals with, and just relax in the company of other like - minded people.
Chances are,
other solo travelers will also be open to the idea of exploring certain places of mutual interest with a fellow traveler.
