The CCLA is arguing that Canada's use of solitary confinement of inmates in prisons
violates s. 12 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and is inconsistent with the revised UN
Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners (known as the Nelson Mandela Rules), which, among
other things,
