An ultra-diffuse galaxy, Dragonfly 17, is shown next to
other types of galaxies, to scale.
This may explain why jellyfish galaxies seem more likely than
other types of galaxies to have active black holes at their centres.

To check the value
of the Hubble constant that they have obtained from a single object, Schmidt and his colleagues plan to apply their technique to
other type II supernovae that have occurred in distant
galaxies.
The origin
of a fast radio burst in this
type of dwarf
galaxy suggests a connection to
other energetic events that occur in similar dwarf
galaxies, said co-author and UC Berkeley astronomer Casey Law, who led development
of the data - acquisition system and created the analysis software to search for rapid, one - off bursts.
Although the origin
of the gamma rays is still being investigated, their discovery suggests the flaring behaviour
of Cygnus X-3 is an even better analogue to that
of quasars and
other types of flaring
galaxies known as «active galactic nuclei» (AGN) than previously thought.
Dwarf
galaxies orbiting the Milky Way lack
other types of gamma - ray emitters and contain large amounts
of dark matter for their size — in fact, they're the most dark - matter - dominated sources known.
Over the past 20 years, surveys
of planets around
other stars in our
galaxy have found the most common
types to be «super Earths» and their somewhat larger cousins — bigger than Earth but smaller than Neptune.
Its ability to detect planets on the
other side
of the
galaxy has revamped our understanding
of how solar systems form, which
types of stars tend to pair with which
types of planets, and shed light on the early dynamics
of solar system formation.
Blazars appear to produce more gamma radiation than
other types of active
galaxies, but this may be because one
of their jets is pointed toward Earth.
Gravitational microlensing opens up the possibility
of mapping the vast expanses
of the entirety
of the Milky Way to really study the distribution
of planets across the
galaxy and discover planet -

other planet - hunting methods that are currently being used.
Using Keck, we have traced atoms as they flow from the intergalactic medium into
galaxies, where they are incorporated into stars, undergo fusion, and are returned in supernovae and
other types of stellar death.
It appears that the relationship between nuclear black hole mass and
other properties
of late -
type galaxies remains to be understood.

other galaxies like this, and in every one

of balance across the
galaxy.
