Some kale has dark, green leaves, while
other types of kale may have purple leaves.
Feel free to substitute
other types of kale, such as curly or Red Russian, but make sure to pre-dress and massage the leaves as noted in the recipe.

I think a good baseline for the breakfast
kale smoothie would be
kale, apple, almond milk (or any
other type of dairy free milk) and some protein like nuts / nut butter.
Other things that would work well now as autumn creeps closer here in the Northern hemisphere is massaged dark greens like
kale, grated apple or apple slices and all
types of root vegetables that taste good raw.
Lucky for us, many citrus fruits such as oranges and grapefruits are in season during the winter months and are great sources
of vitamin C. Strawberries, apples, pears, mangoes, pineapple, and
other types of berries are also great to eat to be sure to take in ample amounts
of vitamin C. Vegetables such as broccoli, carrots, potatoes and sweet potatoes, and leafy greens such as
kale and spinach are also great sources
of vitamin C.

There are more than 50 different
types of kale, but some are far more common than
others.
Safe sources are fibrous leafy green and cruciferous vegetables such as spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage,
kale, asparagus, Brussels sprouts, green beans, chard, celery, cucumbers, lettuce or any
other type of salad.
Some
of my
other favorite
types of burgers include: turkey burgers, salmon burgers, tuna burgers, and my spicy lentil and
kale burgers!
Spinach and
other types of leafy green vegetables such as romaine lettuce and
kale are also wonderful additions to any pet bird's healthy diet.
This year I'm expanding a bit to try strawberries,
kale, various
types of lettuce and
other veggies.
