Others do, however, making this

new old world order.
Read through Jeremy's many posts
about church, tithing and the
other topics you mention, and read his excellent
new book «Bodies, Bucks and Bricks» for more information.
Great post, and the really disproportionate thing
about it is this is all done using the «law» demanding the tithe when not one
New Testament
book endorses this model (The reference in Hebrews was not to establish tithe as it was to establish Jesus in a different order, and his comments in the gospels was to people living under the law)... how is it that no
other «law» is preached with the same force and conviction as tithing?
I did also want to point out a couple of
other books by L.M. Montgomery you might not have heard
about but feature excellent heroines: Emily of
New Moon (who was Madeleine L'Engle's favourite) and Jane of Lantern Hill.
Of course there are
other reasons for my sporadic blogging this year: a surprise
new baby coming which completely disoriented us, a
new book to finish writing (and I will share all
about that in January), travelling and speaking all over North America, stewarding the message of Jesus Feminist throughout her first year of life, creating the Jesus Feminist collection with Imagine Goods, a trip to Haiti,
new opportunities as a writer, three tinies at home with their own lives and drama and growth and change, remodelling parts of our home, marriage, church, friends, life, work, laundry (oh, can we talk laundry?!)
So until the
new version of that
book comes out, maybe I can write a few blog posts once in a while
about these
other passages.
Rather than being excited

new insight from Scripture or idea
about theology which I get to pass on to

about pageviews, backlinks, ad revenue, email subscriber stats,
book sales, and comment counts.
Anyway, despite all the confusion
about pre-millenialism, a-millenialism, post-millenialism, the recent invention of the rapture, Paul's confusing statement
about «we who remain», the entire
book of Revelation not appearing to be written by John because of the Greek used, and the odd way in which eschatological views seem to change in the
New Testament Pauline letters, and the bizarrely easy way people like Thessalonians became convinced Christ had already returned in their time, and all the
other confusing things
about New Testament prophecy — the truth is that it is all trustworthy and you should not question this.
Whitehead's ideas
about education are contained in Whitehead, Alfred North, The Aims of Education and
Other Essays (

Perhaps the internet is doing all of the above and more: encouraging and unifying small religious and
other movements; further facilitating scientific unification across geographic proximity, if not also creating
new scientific theories and concepts; fostering the rise of
new forms of spiritual irrationalism such as those discussed in Wendy Kaminer's wild
book, Sleeping with Extra-Terrestrials; focusing the public even more on particular public personas in news, sports and everything else; creating
new classes of investors who are willing to publish online just
about anything, regardless of whether or not they agree with it; germinating
new technological ideas that are luring capitalists who hold unreasonable expectations of financial bonanzas.
In describing and accounting for the lives of the Religious Right, which we define simply as religious conservatives with a considerable involvement in political activity, the
book and the series tell the story primarily by focusing on leading episodes in the movement's history, including, but not limited to, the groundwork laid by Billy Graham in his relationships with presidents and
other prominent political leaders; the resistance of evangelical and
other Protestants to the candidacy of the Roman Catholic John F. Kennedy; the rise of what has been called the
New Right out of the ashes of Barry Goldwater's defeat in 1964; a battle over sex education in Anaheim, California, in the mid-1960's; a prolonged cultural war over textbooks in West Virginia in the early 1970's — and that is a battle that has been fought less violently in community after community all over the country; the thrill conservative Christians felt over the election of a «born - again» Christian to the Presidency in 1976 and the subsequent disappointment they experienced when they found out that Jimmy Carter was, of all things, a Democrat; the rise of the Moral Majority and its infatuation with Ronald Reagan; the difficulty the Religious Right has had in dealing with abortion, homosexuality and AIDS; Pat Robertson's bid for the presidency and his subsequent launching of the Christian Coalition; efforts by Dr. James Dobson and Gary Bauer to win a «civil war of values» by changing the culture at a deeper level than is represented by winning elections; and, finally, by addressing crucial questions
about the appropriate relationship between religion and politics or, as we usually put it, between church and state.
So I encourage
others who are struggling with tough questions
about Christianity to take advantage of online resources and
books and also to seek out
new friendships in their community without abandoning the old.
I am talking
about the formative differences in what religions believe in, and why an evangelical would rather vote for the guy who praises a guy in a big hat but uses the same
book, than the guy who — while in every
other aspect is unobjectionable — uses the same
book but with a
new afterward.
