People often say that you can make a movie
out of a pulp fiction better than a movie out of a classic and I think there is some reason for that because there's something more you can play with.
Meanwhile, critic and artist Walter Robinson paints a scenario straight
out of a pulp fiction novel or TV soap opera with his new painting Randall and The River of Time and Aura Rosenberg takes us to the river's edge with her floor installation Dialectical Porn Rocks, a collection of creek rocks covered with erotic images from old porn magazines.

While many directors start
out conventional and then experiment once they have clout, Tarantino has abandoned much
of the nonlinear storytelling on which he made his name (with «Reservoir Dogs» and «
Pulp Fiction») for something more traditional.
They put
Pulp Fiction on air, in the full knowledge that the director
of the movie — who is white — gives currency and legitimation,
out of his own mouth, to a term that they forbid to their own presenters, even accidentally and off the air.
Not as well received on its release as the exceptional Reservoir Dogs and
Pulp Fiction but over the years this has gradually gained the respect that it deserves and stands as one
of Tarantino's finest and most mature
outings.
With Essoe's performance proving to be a thing
of complex, emotionally - shattering beauty, even if every element might not work
out exactly as I hoped they were going to I was still impressed with their feature, Midnighters a tasty bit
of pulp fiction I'm certainly going to be revisiting relatively soon.
Maybe Bruce Willis in «
Pulp Fiction» saw it, which is why his character decided to go for the samurai sword
out of all
of the weapons on offer.
The criss - crossed film narrative is in a state
of overuse, but writer - director James DeMonaco's droll, modestly stylish crime gewgaw «Staten Island» wrings a few suspenseful and comic pleasures
out of a time - bending format that has served the likes
of Quentin Tarantino («
Pulp Fiction») and Sidney Lumet («Before the Devil Knows You're Dead») among scores
of others.
But unlike those earlier films with their hard undercurrent
of nihilism,
Pulp Fiction delivered the possibility
of a way
out of the malaise — through spiritual awakening,
of all things.
The mother and the 7 homeschooled children, 6 boys and 1 girl, are essential prisoners in their own home, where the boys» only relief and only window to an outside world lies in the access they are granted to recorded movies, which they constantly watch and then elaborately reconstruct, acting
out scenes from the likes
of Reservoir Dogs,
Pulp Fiction, and Goodfellas.
With
Pulp Fiction out of the way, John Travolta took his first steps toward cashing in on his newly - regained cool with the lead role in this consistently enjoyable crime caper.

Writer - director Shane Black knows detective movies and
pulp fiction inside
out, and in this film he takes elements and scenes that have become staples
of those genres and changes them slightly, often to hilarious effect.
I just thought it was unusual compared to most
of the films
out then - it was slow paced and the director was obviously happy to take his time (
Pulp Fiction it was not!).

of Pulp Fiction and Taxi Driver suffers from some dodgy narrative choices and pacing issues, but knocks
out some compelling footage
of a taxi cruising around Lagos (with a Gandalf The Grey hood ornament).
And what exactly could have been the point
of filling any disaster entry with such an assortment
of bizarre characters like the Marjoe Gortner sex deviate who looks as if he came right
out of the «
Pulp Fiction» sadomasochist basement?
A John Travolta comparison seems appropriate here, where a star is born (Welcome Back, Kotter), gets incredibly hot (Saturday Night Fever), suffers career burnout (too many flops to pick one), revives himself to a second period
of superhot stardom (
Pulp Fiction) and then, inevitably, the flame's
out again (too many movies in recent years).
