traditional high school is an urgent task.
After studying teacher training at Boston College, Hristic spent a few years teaching in Massachusetts, first at an alternative
high school for «behaviorally and emotionally challenged students, but also students so bright and brilliant they were bored

Critics
of charter
schools — which include many teachers who feel charter
schools take money away from
traditional schools — point
out that the
schools have generally not fared well in education ratings and have a
higher cost per student than

But proponents have said charter
schools could make gains with students who haven't performed well in
traditional classrooms, such as the 30 percent
of Washington students who drop
out of high school.

Teachers unions across Washington opposed the initiative from day one, saying it diverts money from the

There's a narrative
out there from those who fear reform (or are unduly invested in current configurations) that augmentation
of school choice and all - around
higher expectations hurts kids in
traditional schools.
Skeptics
of longer
school days point
out that
high - achieving nations such as Finland, Singapore, and China have chosen not to take this route, opting instead for maximizing learning and collaboration time during the
traditional schedule.

Success Academy (SA) and the media blasted the News about the 17 students (
out of 73 or more who started
out in this group) that graduated from SA's first
high school graduating class but do not mention the 31,400 African Americans that graduated with advanced regents and regents diplomas from New York City's

So it seems, then, that charters outside
of L.A. have
higher admittance rates than charters within L.A.. Also, notice that
traditional schools statewide have the
highest acceptance rate overall, with 15.2 %
out of 22.3 %, or 68.2 % accepted.
While some charter
schools serve some
of the students in
highest need, analysis
of TEA data for 2016 - 17 statewide reveals that there is very little difference in the percentage
of students served who are considered at risk
of dropping
out: 50 percent in
traditional schools compared to 52 percent in charter
schools.
The study found that —
out of 22 policy barriers to competency - based education, as cited by principals — 20 were merely perceived or could be dealt with through creative workarounds or waivers.14 The same year, a 50 - state policy scan by the Carnegie Foundation found that only nine states provided no flexibility in granting

Although critics frequently claim that charters aren't held to the same standards as
traditional public
schools, the opposite appears to be true in Washington D.C. OSSE's report makes clear that several
of the city's
traditional high schools have chosen to ignore the district's graduation requirements, while charters only hand
out diplomas to students who earn them.
