Women's History Month, now celebrated annually in the United States, grew out of a weeklong celebration of women's contributions to culture, history and society organized in 1979 within the Sonoma School District.

Lynch resigned her position after being called out for the posts, and the district says it does not have a social media policy, but it does have standards of professional conduct, with which Lynch's posts were not in accord.
