I had to make one exception since I was
out of cane sugar — I omitted the cane sugar and molasses and subbed 1 cup of brown sugar.

I used date
sugar instead
of the
cane sugar, and they turned
out just fine.
Instead
of maple syrup, i poured in hill honey sourced from my neighbour's rubber plantation in Kerala; the bananas were grown on our farm and the brown
sugar was replaced with powdered jaggery (unrefined
cane sugar)... i added some orange rind and left
out the cinnamon...
I took
out another bowl, and dumped in half a cup
of the
cane sugar.
Since the taste
of stevia is up to 300 times sweeter than that
of cane sugar, it's best to start
out on the conservative side as you experiment with using it in your recipes.
I just made this using hazelnuts, subbed organic
sugar cane for maple syrup in the filling and upped a bit the amount
of lemon juice and it turned
out SO GOOD OMG!
Tracey's Notes ~ I did test a batch with 1/2 cup
of organic brown
sugar and the cookies turned
out to be a bit thicker and chewy, while the whole
cane sugar makes a larger, crisper cookie.
Measure
out 250 g granulated
sugar (I used raw
cane sugar because it is delicious) and set aside about 1/4 cup
of it.
They're also made with powdered
cane sugar, which means they're equally as terrible for you (as far as
sugar goes) as other
sugar cookies, but I've nearly eliminated the possibility
of you turning
out a batch
of rock - hard
sugar cookies.
You can use
cane sugar instead
of the coconut
sugar and leave
out the berries.
Worked
out great, I used 1 cup (I wouldn't necessarily want this in a glass to drink, but the added pulp is fine in relish I also used SugarLeaf (SweetLeaf stevia /
cane sugar blend, I didn't have enough honey), about 1/4 cup and two droppers
of Lemon Drop liquid stevia.
Substituted Honeyville Almond Meal (have used Trader Joe's in the past successfully too), a simple syrup because I was
out of honey (Cook equal parts water to organic
cane sugar, added vanilla for flavor, then cool to use in this recipe), added additional 1/2 tsp baking powder just for fun, Decaf instant coffee, and Enjoy Life chocolate chunks.
The only change I would make is to use maple syrup instead
of cane sugar (it comes
out of our taps here in Canada, you know).
The first batch I subbed crispy rice cereal for the almonds, organic
sugar cane crystals for the brown
sugar, added 1 - 2T
of ground flax, and left the cherries
out.
This may be great for vegans who don't want to use
cane or beet
sugar (other «natural»
sugars, yes they are just as natural) because
of the way they may be filtered or processed, but it is a VERY HIGH glycemic food and will spike the daylights
out of a diabetic.
I've noticed granulated
sugar does some gnarly things to my skin (it's not just limited to
cane sugar, either — coconut
sugar is just as bad), but we're going to talk about that another day when I don't feel so weird trying to pivot from talking at you about snacking cookies to talking at you about how I found
out that
sugar — not my hormones — was one
of the driving forces behind my adult acne (the other driving force was, «beating the crap
out of your skin,» according to Adina
of SW Basics).

To balance
out the tartness I topped each muffin with a small pinch
of raw
cane sugar.
The oh so familiar crunchy O's are made
out of almost nothing but
cane sugar and cornstarch.
