of the false information and rhetoric coming from the Malloy administration, parents not only have the fundamental right to opt their children
out of the unfair
testing program, they should strongly consider doing just that as a way to protect their children, Connecticut's teachers and our
state's historic commitment to local control
of public education.

test not only protects those students from the negative aspects
of the
testing program but it sends a powerful message to the
state's elected and appointed officials that parents will not stand idly by as the SBAC
testing scam is used to undermine public education in Connecticut.

program by their parents, is an ugly strategy to embarrass, humiliate and ostracize children who are inappropriately being required to sit in the
testing room for hours while their peers are taking the defective and high - stakes SBAC
tests that are designed to unfairly fail a significant number
of the
state's children.
There is no federal or
state law, regulation or legal policy that prohibits parents from opting their children
out of the unfair, discriminatory and inappropriate Common Core
testing program — and that includes the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC)

Parents HAVE a constitutionally guaranteed right to opt their children
out of these destructive
tests and neither the
state nor local school districts can punish a child if a parent opts them

In the Racine Unified School District, the only other district that currently has a choice
program, choice schools self - reported one student with a disability,
