out of her busy schedule to discuss the evolutionary growth
of ebooks in the library, how the discovery
of content is a top priority, what it took to talk Simon & Schuster and Penguin into joining the library lending model, and how libraries are
selling ebooks.
But what if it turned
out that you could make more money each month by
selling the
ebook at 99 cents instead
of the $ 6.99 or whatever you thought it was worth?
Books that may have only
sold a handful
of copies in the course
of a year or that have been
out -
of - print suddenly gain new life in
ebook form.
My first
ebook is free right now, so no loss there, but I
sell EE2 and EE3 for $ 4.95 each (although, last I checked, Amazon had price - matched one
of those down to $ 3.99 based on some slow - to - update store
out there).
Selling your own
ebooks means that you can have more than one publisher — say, a UK and a US one — and
sell on behalf
of both
of them, meaning that readers anywhere in the world come to one site to buy their books, and the author takes care
of figuring
out which publisher gets the payment from that purchase.

And as I've said now at least four times... regardless
of this copyright law, when we are
out of stock per the term
of our contract, we have to revert the rights when requested... no ifs ands or buts... unless we are still
selling an agreed upon threshold
of ebooks.
This is partly
out of experimental interest to see if this improves my numbers any, and partly just because I've been hand -
selling the
ebook editions for five bucks each — and bringing the base price down to $ 4.99 USD is more in line with that.
I don't know
of one author that we haven't reverted when the license was up, assuming we were
out or low on stock and only
selling minimal amounts
of ebooks.
I self publish as a hobby, as I always have done, but it is becoming less and less fun now as the market has become saturated with rubbish from all forms
of publishing and the techniques being used now to
sell ebooks has become so intertwined with social media and spamming that any literary sense has gone
out the window.
Amazon gets the library borrowers
out of the library site and onto the Amazon site in order to try to
sell them more
ebooks.
I don't know that they'll ever come
out with one that's compatible with all
ebook stores until someone invents one independently
of also
selling books.
In March, Goodreads quietly began offering
eBooks; first, a modest selection
of out -
of - copyright
eBooks supplied by Feedbooks, then allowing authors to upload their own
eBooks and, starting in May, enabling them to
sell them.

One suggestion is for temporary locations to
sell ebooks and a limited selection
of print books to holiday shoppers who are weary

of the most crucial elements for an
ebook to first, gain visibility, and second,
sell well.
During this beta period, Goodreads is working with Amazon Publishing to host Kindle
ebook giveaways, but once
out of beta, the program will be open to any author or publisher — whoever owns the digital distribution rights for the book — who
sells their
ebooks on Amazon.
Though the hardcover edition
of Get What's Yours is currently
sold out on Amazon, it's still in stock at some other vendors;
eBook and audio versions are also available.

We have had a great deal
of success in bringing

of works by new authors as well as bringing
out ebook editions
of out of print books.

out of print — or that's still in print, but which the publisher wants to take 75 % for
selling as an
ebook?
Each Sony PRS - T1
sold actually comes with a free Harry Potter
eBook now but the offer is only good in the USA and Europeans are
out of luck.
But like the much heralded success
of authors Amanda Hocking and John Locke, both
of whom have each
sold more than one million copies
of their self - published
ebooks before going on to sign contracts with major publishing houses, Wilkinson is open to the idea
of traditional publishing and has already heard from some print publishers, although he admits he didn't set
out to be an author.
eBook retailers in 2012 made nearly half
of all book purchases, beating
out print retailers, at least in the US where almost 44 %
of all books
sold through November
of that year were purchased via an online retailer.
The story also examines the part that the Big Six have played in trying to prevent the development

Kobo thought they had another in when Google pulled

sold, and a feeble commission structure for each
ebook sold.
The bottom line is that Amazon's
eBook market is not yet big enough to cover the losses the top
selling indie / self - pubbed authors lose
out on by not being widely distributed in physical book stores in the U.S.
Of course, this disadvantage is mitigated over time because once the trade publishers stop pushing their new releases, these books» sales typically decline, but indie / self - pubbed authors can keep their market pushes going indefinitely, and they can publish new books more frequently than once a year.
For instance, a shoe -
selling website put
out a free
ebook that actually had a number
of useful things to say about finding and taking care
of shoes, and that went into a fair bit
of detail on topics that weren't otherwise well - covered in my index.
You can opt
out of EAF anytime, but you can not take back
ebooks you've
sold.
Baen Free Library is a great place to download original, newer
ebooks, and they also
sell webscriptions that are worth checking
out too if you are a fan
of science fiction and fantasy.
Most ironically, the economics
of selling digitized books (or
eBooks) has taken longer to figure
out than digital music (e.g. Apple's iTunes), despite the textual media being the primary language
of navigation on a computer.
November 2012 — Fictionwise, who was one
of the first and most successful
ebook selling venues is being phased
out now that Barnes and Nobles have gone all Nook all the time.
There's no shortage
of companies that will help would - be authors produce, publish, and
sell their
ebooks, so in an indie industry that is quickly becoming flooded with startups that aim to entice indie authors
of every ilk, there has to be something different brought to publishing table in order to stand
out.
One
of the great things about
ebooks, is that they do not
sell out, so you can keep your sanity amidst the boxing day ravenous hordes.
That means you
sell them, in essence, the right to loan
out your
eBook for one year, or for a certain number
of loans.
Ch 7.6 Exploiting Your Rights Most indie authors, especially when they first start
out, are flummoxed by the idea
of selling rights beyond the print and
ebook versions
of their works.

of like Amazon subbing
out the Kindle store to a company — let's call them Monkey Brain Books — that
sells Kindles to inner city zoologists and decides to put their brand name on the existing Kindle
ebook store that's been around for years, and redo the apps to say Monkey Brain Books.
The poor sales that led to Google's pull -

of booksellers being able to
sell almost any

Waterstones will be sending
out emails to customers starting June 14th, 2016 with instructions on how to transfer accounts to Kobo in order to retain most
of their
ebook collection (a few books are bound not to make the transfer, as Kobo is unlikely to have the rights to every single title that Waterstones has

The vast majority
of ebooks are
sold on Amazon, and with KDP Select, I get the most value
out of the platform.
A lot
of it has gone to freaking
out over sales and marketing and how to
sell ebooks.
And writers who
sold their book to a traditional publisher for a percentage and no advance only to see the book come
out in an
ebook - only edition will be lucky to be displayed on the front page
of the publisher's
ebook website for a week.
