out of their neighborhood school, aiming for a better one.
Yet the decision by a small number of children to opt
out of neighborhood schools may adversely affect the academic and social environment in those schools, as the remaining children are likely to have less - involved families on average.
But we also understand that the weakened status of public schools is a personal dilemma for many families, and we sympathize completely with parents who choose to opt
out of their neighborhood school.
Because we draw families
