The two have pretty good chemistry working and fighting together, which keeps some interest; but those expecting something stimulating

of - water story in which Cheadle's unfailingly professional fish never learns how to breathe the air
of his hostile new surroundings.
The most common failing
of the macho
buddy movie — especially

out» genre — is its treatment
of women; by placing us in complicity with a group
of rowdy males, we're usually coerced into sharing their fears, delusions, and resentments toward women.
By the end
of the
movie Let's Be Cops does take a turn toward the absurd and at times goes completely over-the-top unbelievable, but I laughed
out loud enough times to say that it was an enjoyable
buddy comedy.
I had never seen a Joe Swanberg
movie until Drinking
Buddies, and if the rest
of his work hadn't been thoroughly trashed by people I trust, this film would have led me to check
out the rest
of his filmography.
It's also a
buddy movie that uses visual phallic puns to hint wickedly at what might have only crossed the minds
of viewers
of previous
buddy movies, spelling
out the ambiguity
of their relationship with a funny routine involving an overheard conversation about feeling each other's breasts.
The only winking and nudging I sensed from the
movie was from the overfamiliar
buddy romance at its center, with its steady beats
of betrayal and reconciliation sounding
out with knowing dependability.
How exquisitely ironic that a would - be Enfant terrible who whines and complains about a more successful filmmaker's female character being improbably, impossibly, glibly perfect and hyper - competent in every way would write, in his universally reviled new Netflix original
movie Bright, a sloppy inter-species
buddy comedy team where both halves «unexpectedly» turn
out to be magical figures
of destiny.
It's a parody
of buddy cop
movies with Ferrell and Wahlberg playing a pair
of New York police detectives, one
of whom prefers to play it safe and fill
out paperwork all day, while the other yearns to be
out on the street in the middle
of the action.
As Susan Sarandon has pointed
out (love this woman, and love how much she talks about this
movie), Thelma & Louise basically is an outlaw
buddy movie in the vein
of Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid.
