Yoga, working
out, juicing, healthy eating, meditation, work / life balance are a few personal ways I stay
on top
of my game.
By 8:30 a.m. (the time I usually ended up rolling
out of bed), I had read several chapters
of a good business book, listened to part
of a podcast, spent time in prayer, done some P90X
Yoga, and worked
on a side - project that I'd been «too busy» to work
on for years.
I was
on vacation at a
yoga retreat,
out of the country for one week.

of the birthing process as well as the deeply spiritual and emotional sides
of being the attendant father.

on taking long, deep, cleansing inhales through the nose and
out through the nose (ujjayi breath is what we call it in
yoga) and send that that breath between the spaces in your rib cage, into the muscles
of your back body, and feel that extension that begins to open through the chest.
Yoga girls geek
out over essential oils big time — from bedside table diffusers to roll -
on frankincense and clary sage, we yogis know that essential oils not only take the place
of old - school toxic perfumes, but they make us feel zen and balanced from the inside
out.
Maybe it's a podcast or a playlist
of songs that you only listen to you while you run, your favorite TV show that you'll only watch from the treadmill, brunch with girlfriends after
yoga class, or a special dessert you only allow yourself
on days you've worked
out.
Where I work
out, at Kaya Health Club [in Melbourne's Prahran], there's your traditional gym equipment, and
yoga and Pilates, so you can go
on the treadmill or do a bit
of bike training then go and take a
yoga class.
Tove and I once laid
yoga mats and a computer
out on the floor
of a venue in Denmark and did a workout video before the venue opened up to the public.
And while I still tried to go
on walks, do some
yoga, or muster my way through some sort
of work -
out DVD, I felt incredibly disheartened as my identity as a mover was fading.

This will come with time, but you can help hurry the process along by creating daily rituals that center around your workout: Sip a cup
of coffee
on your way to the gym in the morning, roll
out your
yoga mat in front
of the TV when you wake up in the morning, or listen to a favorite song to get you pumped up before you head
out for a run.
Starting your day with warm water and a squeeze
of lemon is a great way to kick start your hydration for the day, and swapping
out water for juice or coffee later
on in the day will lend to a stronger and healthier
yoga practice.
