So I just don't get the «too much pressure to breastfeed» when all around me are images of bottles, ads for formula telling me a happy feeding makes a happy mom, bottlefeeding moms, moms and doctors and nurses telling new moms that formula is «just as good» and «not to feel guilty», women getting «the look» for nursing in public, or feeling weird about doing it (I sure did)-- to me, any pressure out there is NOT to breastfeed, or do it as little as possible (not if it's not immediately easy or you don't love every minute, not past 6 mos, not in public, not around male relatives and friends, not around children, not if you ever want to go out alone sometime...)

For example if we were assessing how well Children's Centres were reaching out to new dads, we might contact dads via a baby weighing clinic or accompany Home Start volunteers on home visits, to build up a picture of fathers» awareness of what services were available locally.

To start with, I'm a little ehhh on the idea of having whatever random crap a child happens to confide to his or her new pal Barbie hanging out in this company's data cloud indefinitely.

Children especially can get a great thrill out of visiting new and exciting places!

The new system could be an opportunity to make a clear new cultural statement about fatherhood, with higher expectations on their involvement — akin to the expectation on mothers — in a way that would make it less acceptable for fathers to drift out of their children's lives.

After the arrival of a child, there are new logistics to deal with: new strains in managing a household, financial and legal concerns, when and how to go back to work, and figuring out childcare.

On second thoughts, like the ridiculous insults my children can sometimes throw at each other, I hope we can grow out of and beyond this pettiness, and move up to a new level, one of support and respect, valuing the incredible contribution we can all make to humankind.
