The Hester Street Fair is back for its third season on Saturday *, with more rock - star food vendors than ever, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. With more than a third of the market dedicated exclusively to food — like classic HSF breakout stars Luke's Lobster and La Sonrisa, and newbies such as Pies «n Thighs and We Rub You — the fair is pretty much the optimal outdoor eating event (and there are many).

At the outdoor market a special «Green Haat» has been organized showcasing lots of great non-timber forest products such as herbal medicines, crafts, cosmetics, and organic foods.

Creating more urban farms and more food production centers closer to where the market is, whether they are traditional outdoor growing areas, rooftop farms, indoor hydroponic and aquaponics systems, vertical farms, or vacant lot gardens, can go a long way toward building a more resilient local food system and reducing the ecological footprint of our diets.
