outermost atmosphere during the sun's quietest periods.

outermost atmosphere which are less dense and cooler than their surroundings.
Coronal holes are dark, low density regions of the sun's
outermost atmosphere, the corona.

«The fact that the
outermost region of the sun's
atmosphere is at millions of degrees while the temperature of the underlying photosphere is only 6,000 kelvins (degrees C. above absolute zero) is quite nonintuitive.
The Sun's
atmosphere is made up of a number of layers including the photosphere, which is the equivalent of the Sun's surface, and the corona, the
outermost region where flares take place.
The new findings seem to account for a substantial part of the energy needed to cause the very high temperature of the corona, the
outermost layer of the Sun's
atmosphere.
«It's very exciting, and the
atmosphere here is quite electric, in particular because the first close image of the solar system's
outermost world proves that it's a quite fascinatingly variegated place, with multiple kinds of terrain,» he said.
The student will make extensive use of current - and next - generation telescope and computing facilities, including the ground - based Rapid Oscillations in the Solar
Atmosphere (ROSA) instrument that has been designed in - house at QUB, to examine the coupling of magnetic fields from their photospheric footpoints, through to their
outermost extremities in the solar corona.
It will sample Saturn's
atmosphere before crossing the orbital distance of the
outermost main ring.
This, scientists say, is potentially very good news, as we could use the barrier to protect Earth from extreme space weather resulting from events like coronal mass ejections — huge explosions on the sun, where plasmas and magnetic field are ejected from its corona, the
outermost part of its
atmosphere.

outermost layer of the Sun's
atmosphere — is hidden from view by the bright solar surface.
The mesopause, at an altitude of about 80 km, separates the mesosphere from this
