Effectively, CO2 is absorbed into the ocean in polar regions and is
outgassed via the tropics and other upwelling zones.

CO2 then also feeds back
via ocean absorption /
outgassing regulated by SST's.
However, followup work showed that when you zoom in on the scale, the temperature in each spike starts rising 800 years before the CO2 rises, implying instead that temperature is driving CO2 (
via outgassing from oceans) rather than the other way around.

via a random walk model of CO2
outgassing mixed with GHG feedback.
