Over the past decade, New Zealand's growing energy needs have
outpaced improvements in energy efficiency, mainly because of the country's expanding economy and growing population, according to the International Energy Agency's latest study of New Zealand's energy policies.
«Economic and population growth are drivers for emissions and they have
outpaced the
improvements of
energy efficiency,» said Ottmar Edenhofer, economist at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research
in Germany and co-chair of Working Group III of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
