About getting access to the
wireless network when you are
outside of the coverage area, I wanted to add that those who have never synced wirelessly won't be able to register and hence won't be able to access their settings box as instructed.

Really this should only be considered if you're giving it to somebody who travels
outside the range
of wireless networks on a regular basis.
However, the
wireless technology Amazon has chosen for the Kindle — and the Kindle 2, released Feb. 9 — is little used
outside the U.S., and is incompatible with mobile
networks in Europe and most
of Asia.
Outside of US it uses 3G GSM
wireless networks of AT&T roaming partners.
Once enabled, phone automatically makes / receives calls / text messages over Wi - Fi in the U.S., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands («Domestic Coverage Area») if
wireless network coverage is weak or unavailable, or
outside of the Domestic Coverage Area anytime you connect to a Wi - Fi
network.
