Continuing in its mission to help teachers and pupils engage beyond the classroom, schools will now be able to share video and audio recordings of students» work and activities with parents, carers and the whole community, to
support learning
outside school and encourage
parental involvement.
There's no consistent, reliable method for reversing underachievement, though some factors play a role such as
parental support,
outside interests and activities, caring teachers, and separate classrooms or programs.
In examining the factors influence principals «openness to community and
parental involvement, we found that although district
support for more involvement does correlate with the diversity of membership on site councils, districts do not have a strong impact on how principals «openness to community and
parental engagement
outside the traditional site councils.
However, Connecticut's guidelines adjust for split custody arrangements, shared physical custody arrangements and
parental obligations for children
outside the marriage, and courts have discretion to go
outside the guidelines to change the child
support amount when appropriate.
These protective factors include child IQ, temperament, and health, as well as a warm
parental relationship, engagement with school, and
support outside the family (such as a mentor).
For children living in poverty, although parenting has been shown to be a consistent predictor of later child functioning, other factors in the child's social environment have been found to contribute independent variance to children's adjustment, effects that are not accounted for by parenting.15 Such factors include
parental age, well - being, history of antisocial behaviour, social
support within and
outside the family, and beginning around age three to four in Canada's most impoverished communities, neighbourhood quality.16
Using experimental methods researchers have found
support for: childhood stress (§ 6b) and father absence (§ 6c) lowering preferred age at first birth and increasing sexual risk taking [45,53]; attachment style (§ 6e) influencing parenthood - related thoughts [60]; cultural norms (§ 6m) discouraging reproduction
outside stable unions [12]; women's reproductive autonomy (§ 6i) influencing their fertility preferences [47]; paternity uncertainty (§ 6j) discouraging
parental investment by men [55]; high cost of children (§ 6l) encouraging delayed reproduction and lower fertility [36,47]; resource stress and limitation (§ 6o) affecting mating preferences [12,36,40,51]; and mortality risk and salience (§ 6p) encouraging a greater interest in children, earlier reproduction and higher fertility [6,41,42,45,57 — 59].
These findings underscore that for millions of children living
outside of
parental care, family
support does not mean
support from their parents, but rather includes a range of other caregivers who may have different needs.
