Thin uniform applications are extremely important
over dark colored paints!

While the skewers are cooking
over the coals, you
paint them with the reduced marinade to build up flavor and
color, and by the end, you have a supremely juicy, beautifully -
colored nuggets of
dark meat with just the right about of peppery heat balanced by sweet molasses and punchy ginger.
Let them
color over paper with
dark blue watercolors and use shaker to salt
over wet
paint.
THE WATERCOLOR EFFECT In this illusion by Italian vision scientist Baingio Pinna, a thin, orange contour adjacent to a
darker purple contour casts an orange tint
over long distances — as though a watery
paint was filling in the gaps between the orange lines [see «Illusory
Color and the Brain,» by John S. Werner, Baingio Pinna and Lothar Spillmann; SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN, March 2007].
To create an ombre effect, use another paintbrush for
darker colors and slowly
paint over one another.
Over the rest of the base, I used 3 coats total of chalk
paint in «Nautical» Blue which is
darker than the Plutonium
color.
Over the next year, we would put in new lighter
colored flooring,
painted the walls white, ripped out a
dark stone fireplace, renovated the
dark kitchen, and added in three solar lights in the main living areas to brighten the space.
I had to go
over it a few times because the black
paint needed multiple coats since it's a
dark color on a bright white.
It leaves a hint of
color over the existing
paint surface, and depending on how
dark you want the wash to be, you can do more than one coat.

painting some chairs a
dark color (a deep putty brown)
over previous red.
If you put
dark wax right
over the chalk
paint, it is hard to move the
color around where you want it.

dark blue - green
color painted over a pinkish fabric.

A sense of ambient lighting is cast
over each
painting that employs a melodious equilibrium between the striking, energetic
dark shades and the ethereal, pastel

Often when I start a picture
over, I will obliterate the
painting underneath with a
dark glaze of red or green - not related at all to a subject - or
paint a live coat of pale
color to work out of.
Called «Tondo» (2003)-- a round
painting, as the title suggests — it superimposes a red cross
over a pale gray rectangle within a pale peach circle framed by a
darker, cantaloupe -

over 700 minutes in a single day.
In the center of Italian Veil, 1960, a grim wall of
dark paint obstructs our view of another, more colorful composition that we can only deduce from the traces of prismatic
color peeking out
over the top — lucid blues, chipper yellows, and sherbet oranges to which we will never have full access.
I
painted other walls with what I had left of the BM and its the same
color still, so is not like the walls are dirty or got
darker... Sucks that I would have to go
over the entire wall instead of just half...
We've had to
paint over previous tenants (mostly inherited tenants, one tenant that
painted a feature wall and tried to
paint it back when they moved)
paint colors before, it takes 2 - 3 coats to cover the
dark ones and they usually get
paint everywhere else in the process.
I used the same brown leather cubes, a rust -
colored log bucket and one large piece of art
over the mantle, which is
painted dark brown.
The stencil is done in white
paint and then stained
over top with Minwax
Dark Walnut and the
color on the legs is Hallowed Hush by Behr.
Depending on what kind of
paint you used or how you applied the
paint you can take a small
paint brush and
paint over the area that you took to much off and then take a q - tip and dip it into fingernail polish remover with acetone and gently go
over the area you re-painted to remove some of the
paint so you can see through to the
darker color.
Then if there's $ 40 available, how about some primer
paint and a nice neutral
color paint over the
dark red faux
paint?

More coats are needed when
painting a lighter
color over a
darker color.
The
dark in the crevices is the
darker paint beneath, that wasn't completely covered from lighter
colors over top.
Over that, I
painted a blend of
dark gray, 2 different
colors of brown and a few dabs of white (all chalk
paint.)
Oh my goodness... I think IF she plans on keeping it and not tearing it down and starting
over,
paint the outside, keep the white, do black shutters and a great
color for the front door or get a new solid wood one, 2nd... on the inside, seeing that J Lo transformed her husband's NY place into more modern fare, I think that she would definitely add
color (all the walls are white) in the lighter neutrals, reverse the
dark stained wood molding in the sitting area around the ceiling and windows into something lighter to coordinate with whatever wall
color she chooses or white, 3rd... she would remove most of the colonial furniture pieces, especially sofas and chairs, and add something with more interest, 4th... holy cow... that red carpet on the stairs would definitely go and she would do hardwoods, 5th... kitchen and FR complete overhaul, I can see her doing 2 different seating areas in the FR and gut the kitchen..
This was my first time
painting a room with a light
color over a
dark color.
Hemp oil is one of my favorite topcoats
over dark milk
paint colors, especially black.
I redid my entire bathroom cabinets using a
dark brown antiquing glaze
over a mahogany
colored paint and even created a faux wood grain that looked like real mahogany.
Others like a French look and use 2
colors and add
dark wax
over the
paint to look old.
If we had to
paint over bright or
darker colors, I'd consider a coat of primer first, especially depending on the
paint brand you use.
We have been meaning to
paint our interior for three years now... the previous owners put up some cheap
paint over their
darker colors and if you hit something up against the walls it comes off!
