over direction of the entire
film to Jorma Taccone.
The dialogue sparkles even though many
of the best lines are ad - libbed, while the
direction by Sydney Pollack (Three Days
of the Condor, The Firm), who also plays the role
of the frustrated agent in the
film, keeps the movie fresh and honest enough to cover
over the necessary contrivances that hold the movie together.
Extensive reshoots and additional
direction seemed to work in favor
of Lucasfilm's very first Star Wars Anthology, Rogue One, so we can only hope the change in directors at the last minute (with Ron Howard taking
over for Phil Lord and Chris Miller after shooting 90 %

film) does the same.
Rawson Marshall Thurber, responsible for Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, was tasked to direct this
film and also unfortunately this feels nothing like the spirited, «we're screwed but we're going to still enjoy the moment anyway» brand
of humor that washed
over Dodgeball «s cliched storyline; the
direction here feels hesitant, unsure and quite frankly amateurish.
Whilst that I can acknowledge that it did take the
film in a slightly different
direction, and tried to do something a little different than the original (for example letting Murphy retain his memory whereas in the original Murphy was wiped or delving more into the family life
of Murphy both as a human and as RoboCop), but for me it missed out on having the main villain, it cashed in on using the original them tune (which to be honest I did kinda like), the shoe - horning in
of some
of the original one liners that really felt out
of place, there was tonnes
of CGI which unfortunately is to be expected these days and I felt it was considerably toned down to appeal more to the younger audience, losing the
over gratuitous violence and blood that the original had which in my opinion gave it some
of the charm that it still has today.
I thought that The Desolation
of Smaug was a vast improvement
over An Unexpected Journey by pushing the series along in the right
direction as it felt closer in tone and feel to The Lord
of the Rings than the first
film did.

In the
film, a 320 - ton steamship did in fact make its way
over a mountain in South America, to get from one river to another by way
of pulleys and the handiwork
of more than 1,000 crew members toiling under Herzog's
direction.
