If so, there is reason to believe the race for state school chief will once again prove critical to CTA and charter supporters even though the Superintendent of Public Instruction has little actual authority
over education policy in the state.

Over the last several years, I've spent a fair amount of time defending the Common Core
State Standards (CCSS)
in my role as a senior fellow with the Thomas B. Fordham Institute, an

policy think tank
in Washington, D.C.. Now, given president - elect Trump's pledge to «end Common Core,» which he terms «a disaster,» I expect many more opportunities to defend high standards, at least for the foreseeable future.

This theme — that greater
state control
over funding will lead to greater
state power with respect to local educational programs and
policies — is a recurrent one
in the literature on financing public
education.
While
state governments have had a heavy hand
in teacher preparation, licensure, and certification
policy for
over a century (American Association of Colleges of Teacher
Education, 1990; Hawley, 1990),
states have traditionally delegated teacher tenure and evaluation
policy to localities, often
in conjunction with local collective bargaining units (Ballou, 2000; Cohen - Vogel & Osborne - Lampkin, 2007; Hannaway & Rotherham, 2006; Hungerford & Blom, 2014; Strunk, 2012).
In many respects, the debate

education policy is a question of trust, and the Republicans now running Congress trust the

The fight
over The Project School cuts to the heart of what makes charter schools different and once again highlights an instance
in which reconciling two prevailing values of the
state's current
