In this post, I discuss the pitfalls of accountability groups, and the better way to gain
victory over sin in our lives.
It just seems to me that there are some who write on this blog who think they need to live in a constant depression and guilt
over sin in their life.
His perfection does not eliminate his sharing of our suffering, his
sorrow over our sin, or his joy over our turning to him.
He simply took the sins of the world upon Himself so that He could
conquer over sin, death, and the devil by bearing them all into the grave.
The only problem with that view is that it does seem to
gloss over sin.
I had a completely transformed mind, a
sorrow over all sins, [and] a burning desire that others should share the same grace.
«Self - centered indulgence, pride, and a lack of
shame over sin are now emblems of the American lifestyle,» Graham writes in the open letter released by his organization this week.
God's grace will
cover over that sin, and all other sins if you will just believe in Jesus for eternal life.»
That God had earlier
passed over sins does not provide any answer to this question.
After a life dedicated to the discovery of God's revealing presence in an evolving universe, and yet banished and silenced in his own church, it seemed appropriate that he should depart this life on the day of the great epiphany of the Lord as
victor over sin, ignorance, and the established religion.
Now it has been redeemed to symbolize the victory of
Jesus over sin, death, and the devil.
He did this to show his righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed
over the sins previously committed; it was to prove in the present time that he himself is righteous and that he justifies the one who has faith in Jesus.»
The victory of Christ may mean that evil can never be completely victorious, but the victory of good over evil and of God
over sin does not necessarily imply the total elimination of evil.
Faith is a gift from God... it is permanent... the faith that God gives begets obedience... God gave it to you and He sustains it... May God grant you a true saving faith, a permanent gift that begins in humility and
brokenness over sin and ends up in obedience unto righteousness.
I thought about this on Sunday when my Bible study teacher was working through 2 Samuel 12, where Nathan confronts
David over his sin with Bathsheba.
So my independent critical thinking is this: Jesus Christ founded His Church for His people so when we fall into sin we have His inst!tuted Sacraments to bring us back to the relationship we had with Him at our Baptism; to leave the Church in search of something «man made» because of someone's sin would just mean that I would go somewhere else where there are people and people the
world over sin!
Shattered and grieving, David feels almost unbearable
pain over his sin and its punishment.
John the Baptist knew that the decisive moment was at hand, and he interpreted that moment in terms of his sense of
outrage over sin.
Salvation without obedience is what Satan has but faith with obedience is what is empowered by the Cross because otherwise we are
powerless over sin.
In all that Jesus said and did, in his death on the cross and in the living presence of Christ, a promise of victory
over sin through the forgiving love of God is brought to us.
Nothing he read, he says, gave him answers or helped him sense «God's future
justice over sin, sorrow and the brokenness of the world.»
Bible reading is a primary source of power in our Christian
life over sin and temptation, a source of intimacy with God and Jesus Christ, a source of fellowship with the Holy Spirit, and sensitivity to His leading.
It is our Christian hope that Christ, who rose
triumphant over sin and death, will reign forever in God's eternal kingdom and that we shall know the glory and blessedness of his presence.
Cardinal Newman once remarked that the English are possessed of a profound self - contemplation, which leads them to be
wretched over their sins and not repentant.
Given the shattered relationship between God and humanity, given the reciprocity of outrage between God and
humanity over our sin and the tragic inequities which mar God's world, simple forgiveness will not do.
Consider what it was like for David when he was confronted by
Nathan over his sin of adultery with Bathsheba.
We will have much more victory
over sin when we move our eyes to Jesus and off of ourselves and our sins.
I sigh
inwardly over our sin - saturated condition as I remind him that the Ten Commandments are pretty clear about adultery.
This is to distinguish between «attrition,» or emotional
anguish over sin, and «contrition,» or intention not to continue in sin once recognized as such.
