There is evidence that ebooks are beginning to plateau but they are still making gains in market
share over print books.
Ever since Amazon announced that digital editions were selling at a 3:1
ratio over print books, people took notice.
«Until now, digital textbooks have failed to gain real traction because they add little
value over the printed book,» said Matt MacInnis, Inkling's founder and CEO in an interview with Publisher's Weekly.
The basic idea was that one of the biggest changes that an ebook can have
over a print book is that it can dynamically integrate its context over the network.
Digital books have several advantages
over printed books, especially for the developing world where millions of children and families struggle to get even subsistence access to reading materials.
