WASHINGTON — Parents overwhelmingly believe that public
schools are the single most important institution for the future of their community and of our nation, and they choose strong neighborhood public
schools over expanding
choice, charters and vouchers, according to a
nationwide poll released today by the American Federation of Teachers.
As the Trump administration seeks to expand
school choice nationwide, the academy was thrust into the national spotlight last month as part of a heated debate
over whether
schools that receive money from taxpayer - funded vouchers can discriminate against certain groups of students, such as LGBT children or students with disabilities.
