Section 15 (1) substitutes a new para 6 of Pt 1 of Sch 1, BA 1976 and provides that if
defendants are 18 years or
over and it appears to the court that, having been released on bail in or in connection with the proceedings for an offence that carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment, they failed to surrender to custody, they may not be granted bail
unless the court is satisfied that there is no significant risk that, if released on bail, they would fail to surrender to custody.
This paragraph provides that if
defendants are 18 years or
over and it appears that they committed an offence that carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment while on bail in criminal proceedings, they may not be granted bail
unless the court is satisfied that there is no significant risk of their committing an offence while on bail.
