policies today derives from a political interpretation of Principle 15 (now called the Precautionary Principle) of the United Nations Rio
Declaration of 1992, which states: «Where there are threats of serious or irreversible damage, lack of full scientific certainty shall not be used as a reason for postponing cost - effective measures to prevent environmental degradation.»
