I did add a dousing of coconut sugar crystals and a lite dusting of
date sugar.
Dates are GAPS - legal, and
date sugar is just dehydrated and ground dates, therefore = GAPS - legal.
I used
date sugar instead of the cane sugar, and they turned out just fine.
My favorite natural sweeteners are raw honey, coconut sugar,
date sugar and maple syrup.
(1/4 cup of salba seeds made 1/2 cup of salba meal) Also subbed using
date sugar and coconut crystals for the honey and that worked fine.

Here's what I substitued: - 2 tbls of
date sugar and 1tsp of my red chile paste for the «dates and tamarind cooking sauce» - 2 tsp of lime juice for the kaffir lime leaves (since lime juice and lime zest are good substitutes for the leaves if you are unable to find them at an asian store or online)- 1 small sweet onion in place of the green onions.
* You will see a few brown specs in my pictures because I tried adding 1/4 cup of

Hi Lacey, To keep more of a traditional sugar cookie taste, you could try all powdered xylitol or maybe
date sugar.
Also available on the market is
date sugar.
Some great sweetening options include honey, molasses, maple syrup (especially Grade B), coconut sap sugar, maple or
date sugar, rapadura, sucanat, and muscovado sugar.
I only had
date sugar and that worked fine for the glaze and in the batter.
Pure
date sugar provides this Date Nut Muffins with all the sweetness they need.
You can use any other granulated sweetener in place of the homemade vanilla sugar (granulated erythritol, sucanat, coconut sugar,
date sugar, ec.).
Then choose your sweetener: maple syrup, honey, agave,
date sugar, brown sugar, or white sugar, and stir in a small spoonful.
Sprinkle with the cinnamon
date sugar and bake for 30 to 35 minutes, until golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Some good, natural sweeteners you can feel good about using are
date sugar, coconut sugar, pure maple sugar and xylitol.

Paleo people did not have chocolate chips and processed cocoa and blanched almond flour and agave syrup and
date sugar and other processed sweeteners, and on and on, the list is long.....
But really, feel free to try evaporated cane juice (or organic white sugar), Sucanat, maple sugar,
date sugar, «raw» sugar, or even lucuma powder in this recipe.
