The modifications used on this model to achieve these low emissions include: a diesel particulate filter,
improved oxidation catalytic converter, longer gear ratios, aerodynamic front grill, smaller door mirrors, subtle side skirts as well as other drag reduction features.
Using a
diesel oxidation catalytic converter (DOC), in which afterburning of hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide takes place, the scientists of Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and their partners found that the particle size and oxidation state of the platinum component during operation can be modified specifically.
The 2.0 - litre four - cylinder TDI Clean Diesel engine is fitted with
an oxidation catalytic converter, a particulate filter and an SCR catalytic converter to allow it to adhere to emissions standards across all 50 US states, and making it one of the cleanest and most efficient diesel engines in the world.
Volkswagen also claims that the new TDI pumps out 40 % lower emissions than the previous 2013 model thanks to two exhaust gas recirculation systems, a particulate filter and
an oxidation catalytic converter.
Positioning
the oxidation catalytic converter, diesel particulate filter and SCR system (selective catalytic reduction using reducing agent AdBlue) close to the engine makes the emission control components react especially quickly.
Both are fitted with a diesel particulate filter and
an oxidation catalytic converter.
Alongside
the oxidation catalytic converter and the particulate filter, SCR catalytic converters with AdBlue metering are used for the first time in this engine class.
