That dramatic idea encountered skepticism until an
analysis of the lunar rocks showed that they have the same mix of
oxygen isotopes as rocks found on Earth, strongly suggesting a shared origin.
The team based its

Knudson and Ravelo based their findings on an
analysis of carbon and
oxygen isotopes in the calcium carbonate shells of tiny marine organisms called foraminifera, which are preserved in seafloor sediments.
To date, we have a full complement of
analyses for about three years of growth for one tusk from the Taimir Peninsula of Siberia (the Jarkov mammoth; ca. 20,300 rybp) and growth increment and tusk apatite carbon and
oxygen isotope ratios for two to three years of growth from two tusks from Wrangel Island (4,400 and 4,120 year bp).

Furthermore, we found no relationship between δ13C and δ18O (linear mixed effect model, coefficient = − 0.012, df = 82, p = 0.925) when we structured the

Isotope analysis allows us to identify that this CO2 is the result of «old» carbon combining with «new»
oxygen which is a clear signature of fossil fuel combustion produced CO2.
In the 1970s, the first comprehensive
analysis of
oxygen isotopes in sediments from cores taken from the sea floor established for the first time that the timing of the Ice Ages was linked to subtle changes in the Earth's orbit around the Sun as suggested long ago by Serbian mathematician Milutin Milankovitch.
