ozone hole did for the chemicals industry: scared everyone out of their complacency.

ozone hole is at its largest because the cold winter months coupled with the returning daylight permit stratospheric cloud formations that
do the most damage to the

DU on Oct. 5 with the
hole covering 8.2 million square miles (equivalent to the area of North America).
The
ozone hole plays a role in the stronger winds, but so
does increasing temperature.
The team
did observe an important outlier in the trend: In 2015, the
ozone hole reached a record size, despite the fact that atmospheric chlorine continued to drop.
The world united to combat the
ozone hole, can we
do the same for climate change?
In «Don't Blind NASA to Earth's Climate» [Science Agenda], the editors refer to NASA as having «spotted a dangerous, growing
hole» in the
ozone layer in the 1980s.
THE EDITORS REPLY: The 1985 paper
did document the existence of the
ozone hole.

Earlier research showed that many simply didn't understand the problem — many confused it with the «
ozone hole,» and thought buying a pump hair spray rather than the CFC spray would solve the problem.
Anyone can use these data to
do their own analysis and make their own maps and models of the
ozone hole and how it's recovering.

The reason may have to
do with the cold Antarctic atmosphere handling moisture differently than the atmosphere over warmer regions.Part of the reason that Antarctica has barely warmed has to
do with the
ozone hole over the continent.

do pretty well at capturing the poleward expansion in the Southern hemisphere but only if they include the effects of the Antarctic
ozone hole!

Indeed, according to many surveys, the
ozone hole still resonates in the popular imagination — incorrectly — as a cause of global warming simply because it is so memorable and has something to
do with the changing atmosphere.
Look, I
do not claim that climate models are perfect — far from it — but their matches to observed data at the large scale are impressive — Pinatubo, last 30 years, response to ENSO, NAO response, sea ice response,
ozone hole response etc..
And then I met Erik Conway, and Erik had made the link to what had happened over the
ozone hole, and then we started
doing research, started digging a little bit, found this link for Fred Seitz back to the tobacco industry, and that I remember very clearly because I remember that day, I called Erik on the phone and I said, «Erik, we need to write a book.»
The theory
did not predict the Antarctic
ozone hole and can not predict what will happen globally.
This was said to be related to tighter circulation patterns over Antarctica, I think to

ozone hole.
Your attempt to tweak the
ozone hole explanation with a new twist also
does not work... you say the
ozone fails to absorb UV in the stratosphere, causing more sea ice to form in the winter.
Look at the «
ozone hole» issue... where victory is claimed in healing the Antarctic
ozone hole by banning of fluorocarbons although only some Western countries (such as US) banned the chemicalswhile other major users didn't.
Some years ago I asked the two leadimg
ozone hole institutes whether or not there might always have been a fluctuating
ozone hole as we have only been able to measure it from the 1950's and they said they
did not think it likely but that it was possible.
Nick yes, but is the moral that there have always been sporadic
ozone holes and we measured it at one of its peaks, or that the cause was correctly diagnosed and dealt with or that there might be things happening that we don't yet know about?
Did the Montreal Protocol fix the

do not know the historic measurements and
do not know if we may have been trying to fix something that was not broken.

Minimum values of total
ozone inside the
ozone hole are close to 100 Dobson units (
DU) compared with normal springtime values of about 300
DU -LSB-...].
Today, the
ozone hole — actually a region of thinned
ozone, not actually a pure
hole — doesn't make headlines like it used to.
The Polar bears stubbornly refuse to go extinct, indeed the buggers are thriving, the glaciers don't appear to be disappearing, sea levels have stayed boringly level, we haven't been subsumed by hordes of desperate climate refugees, the polar ice caps haven't melted, the Great Barrier Reef is still with us, we haven't fought any resource wars, oil hasn't run out, the seas insist on not getting acidic, the rainforest is still around, islands have not sunk under the sea, the
ozone holes haven't got bigger, the world hasn't entered a new ice age, acid rain appears to have fallen somewhere that can't quite be located, the Gulf Stream hasn't stopped, extreme weather events have been embarrassingly sparse in recent years and guess what?

does the
ozone hole strengthen ocean currents around Antarctica as stated in the answer to question 7?
Don't worry, they will wheel out the «Its the
Ozone Hole thats causing the Antarctic to be cold» theory.
DDT imposed enormous costs through the destruction of ecosystems; acid rain, secondhand smoke, the
ozone hole, and global warming
did the same.
And it grew as acid rain and the
ozone hole demonstrated that pollution traveled hundreds or even thousands of kilometres from its source,
doing damage to people who
did not benefit from the economic activity that produced it.
Some of the work at CERN seemed to say that cosmic rays nucleate very small droplets that
do not increase to cloud size... Anyway, some of us follow GCR for reason of climate amplifications and even
Ozone hole development.
The mother of the climate fraud is the
ozone fraud which was able to convince us that localized and seasonal formation of regions with less than 200
DU of total
ozone were «
holes» of some sort and to further convince us that these «
ozone holes» were evidence of global
ozone depletion caused by the destruction of
ozone by man made halogenated hydrocarbons.
Hahaha — And don't forget that the trees in question are in the NH, while the big bad
ozone hole is in the SH.
Just as was
done with the
ozone hole and tobacco.
Don't forget that the stratosphere also is under the influence of decreasing CFCs [
ozone hole recovering].
However we
do observe the
ozone hole growing when the sun is active and shrinking when the sun is less active which lends credence to the idea that we have been interfering with the natural processes with our CFCs
This is the normal situation (which is why you don't generally get an
ozone hole in the arctic.
