«A lot
of things are happening at a very fast
pace,» says Jackie Ying, who was a professor for 11 years at MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts, before moving to Singapore in 2003 as executive director
of the Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology, «and Singapore has tremendous
research opportunities, especially in the
biomedical areas.»
These are extraordinary times, with the
pace of discovery and development
of new techniques occurring so rapidly, yet budgets at Federal institutions supporting
biomedical research (such as the NIH) are becoming ever more constrained.
