What is
the pace of the class (especially if it is a class for all levels!)?
The pacing of the class gives me, as the teacher, a chance to observe students — how they move, how they breathe — and guides the way I structure the rest of the class.
I find
the pace of her class relaxing and the emphasis on the breath helpful.
A nice way to change
the pace of your class is to have students write regular reflections on the work they have done.
This could be done by distributing a quick survey or set of questions about class activities, the teacher's style,
the pace of the class, etc..
That's why it's always important to have Plan B ready to go, possibly an analog version of your scheduled activity, in order to keep
the pace of the class and keep the lesson on task.
She chose a unit which already took several weeks so that a maker project would not disrupt
the pacing of her class.
Using questions also gives the teacher an opportunity to adjust
the pace of the class based on how well students seem to be understanding the content.
Later, when you teach the lesson, note how the amount of time each phase actually requires so that you can adjust your future lessons to fit the time and
pace of your class.
Since there are no «semesters» students will not get pushed ahead or held back by
the pace of the class.
Afraid I found
the pace of this class way too fast for an absolute beginner, even pausing whenever possible.
