These tips will help you establish yourself as a
pack leader, in a positive way, over your
aggressive dog: Don't play games such as tug -
of - war unless you always win.

of dogs, and will never affect those who let their
aggressive dogs run in
packs.

The absence
of a domestic environment can lead stray
dogs, which are by nature gregarious, to form
packs that can become
aggressive and endanger other animals and even humans.
There are several reasons why a
dog should be allowed to be
aggressive: legitimate self protection, establishment and maintenance
of a
pack order with the other
dogs in the house, protection
of territory, protection
of the family from attack, legitimate police or sport or protection work, and legal hunting purposes.
First there should be exceptions to when the
dog IS allowed to threaten or bite, which would be considered provocation... those would include: a.) Legitimate self defense; b.) Defense
of territory; c.) Defense
of pack — human family, other home pets, and such; d.) Establishment
of a reasonable
pack order within the home; e.) Mouthing (which is not the same as being
aggressive); f.) While being trained during lessons, and in the midst
of long term maintenance training, to teach a
dog to contain it's drives and aggression; g.) For legitimate police work — if a police force obtains ownership and control
of the
dog, then the court order should be rescinded and the
dog be given a fresh start; h.) Legitimate hunting purposes (such as duck hunting).
Dog's are not born
aggressive, but some will inadvertently learn to react in an
aggressive manner in an effort to survive and through misinterpretation
of their role in the
pack.
A
dog that was well - behaved and calm in its youth can suddenly show a
pack mentality and become more
aggressive, chase cars, try to get loose to roam freely, or bark and growl a lot, all as a result
of high testosterone levels.
But when our
dogs become
aggressive about keeping hold
of their bones or toys or bed, the first thing we must do is not to see the issue as one
of our
dog engaging in «point scoring» with ulterior motives
of longer term control
of his human
pack, but rather as one
of safety for ourselves.

In a human -
dog pack, the owner must learn to recognize the submissive posture
of his
dog because continuing to be
aggressive toward the
dog when the
