Working with his hand, rather than brushes, Binion uses oil paint stick and sepia ink and
paper — documents that have included copies
of his birth certificate, his passport photos, images
of his mother and childhood home, newspaper clippings, and
pages from the address book he kept from 1972 through the 1990s.
Although he often uses his own photographs as templates for
works on
paper and oils on linen, these
pages reveal the complex degree
of editing and compression that this process entails.
