If there is
bleed through of the tannins or stain in the wood after one coat of chalk
paint, you should use clear shellac
over the surface first, let dry, then apply another layer of chalk
paint.

Be careful of any wet oil

All of our married life he's bent his back and stretched his arms as wide as the cross covering
over the chipped and failing
paint, and he's filled in the cracks until his hands split and
bled, until the walls were fresh and new.
If you aren't familiar with this phenomenon, sometimes even though a pre-existing stain didn't initially
bleed through your
paint, once you add a water based sealer
over it, the sealer will draw the
bleeding stain through the
paint.
