Hi Karen, I am somewhat of a novice at using milk paint, but I had success with painting a base coat in one color, then using the wax puck in spots, and then
painting over the piece with a second color of milk paint.

I've switched
over to sealing almost all of my
pieces (regardless of
paint type) with wipe on poly.

I have used it
over painted pieces before and have had no issues with the images smearing.
The only thing I did to prep the pumpkins was remove any long stringy
pieces of hot glue that must have been originally left
over from the where the stem was glued on, and I also removed the stems to make the pumpkins easier to

paint splatters and streaks all

painted my china cabinet, and used the Minwax dark wax to antique it, it's not for everyone, but the look is just what I want, old world look, not even put it has character, I am doing my coffee table as well, I find very ornate

Started a project using white milk
paint over a very dark
piece (bleed thru is not the problem), it's just a much different chemical composition (thinner coverage, even when mixing - in less water) and doesn't cover well, requiring a minimum of 4 coats (great for some projects, but not this one).
To achieve Annie's signature look, apply the wax
over your
painted piece with an Annie Sloan Wax Brush or lint - free cloth, and then sand back.

To do this, take a
piece of chalk length wise and color
over all the chalk
paint.
If it's all
over and you have no clue what the cause is, I would sand the entire
piece to smooth out the cracked areas then re-prime and
paint.
Jan, I have tried many products to use
over chalk
paint, several waxes then I switched to polycrylic top coats and have tried several, the best I've ever used is Polyvine Decorator's Varnish Dead Flat Finish — it DOES NOT yellow, I just used
over two big
pieces of furniture
painted in Pure White and Off White and absolutely no yellowing.
When purchasing ASCP today I was discouraged from sealing my
piece with General Finishes High Performace Polyurethane Top Coat as they stated the top coat would cause the chalk
paint to lift from the wood
over time.
I'm not sure how it would do
over the chalk
paint but I'm going to try it on a
piece I'm doing
over AS graphite!
Carnauba is a VERY hard wax so you have to use a lower percentage than the other two but let me tell you that my wax lasts a very LONG time on my
painted pieces being made out of wood or upholstery (I do apply the wax
over fabric).
The
piece you chose from Gathering Moss is truly beautiful and will be a keeper, not something she will
paint over again in a few years.
Another option would have been to
paint a base coat of acrylic or chalk
paint over the entire
piece and then add a layer of milk
paint without bonding agent.
Once I had applied the transfer, I waxed this
piece with Miss Mustard Seed Furniture Wax
over both the Drop Cloth and the Mint Julep Dixie Belle
paint, as well as
over the transfer.
I have only used soft wax and water - based poly and water - based glazes
over the chalk
painted pieces I have
painted.
When using store bought or DIY chalk
paint, it is always a good idea to run 100 grit sandpaper
over any
piece you are going to
paint to provide some «tooth» so the
paint adheres even better.

Hi Diane, I'm doing an old antique bed room suite it's been in the family
over 50 years and then some I want to make it right as is have around five
pieces to do what do you think I should use and steps I should take should I sand then primer and use pop with a satin or flat
paint the bedroom suit will be used so I also want it to hold up years to come,, I'm really having a hard time as it a high dollar bedroom set as we have seen a few just like sell it at estate sells,,, thanks for any info..
Since this
piece is newly finished I can't say how it'll hold up long - term, but Annie Sloan Chalk Paint works great when
painting over fabric (with a little water sprayed on - no water on the leather though).
