In Slightly Ajar, her second exhibition with the gallery, Sharon Lawless continues to use found materials — discarded packaging,
paint samples,
wrapping paper and altered pages from auction catalogs — in her manipulation of two modern traditions, collage and geometric abstraction as she explores the tension between accident and control and how this tension effects perception.
It was an exceptional experience to have the museum deinstall an entire room of these early
paintings,
wrap the room with a gray
paper Backdrop, and reinstall the artworks exactly where they had originally been.

wrapping paper as filler art in those frames above the sofa, I finally just decided to
paint my own art!
I finished off the backs of the Sunset cards with snippets of polka dotted
papers gleaned mostly from odd bits of
wrapping paper and smudges of
paint in the same warm tones... just because I love dots dots dots... and
paint!
Since I don't want to go through the whole
painting part of the
paper, etc., I was wondering if wood grain
wrapping paper would work or if it's too hard to stick down with the glue.
Cooked bacon sandwiches for Sprogs» breakfast (to remove temptation from fridge for The Great Famine of 2012); did grocery shopping; bought Husband six - pack of beer for New Year's Eve party; bought chooks 25 kg bag of scratch mix; staggered to car with 25 kg bag of scratch mix; washed and hung out two loads of washing; filled recycling bin with empty bottles and cartons; baked eggshells to make grit for chooks; assembled
wraps for Husband and Sprogs for lunch; baked banana bread to use up manky banana supplies; baked biscuits with Sprog 2, who doesn't like banana bread; shut back door 50 times to stop plague of mozzies getting in; shut front door 20 times to stop plague of mozzies getting in; killed lots of mozzies; threw out old magazines and newspapers; put crap away from recent car trip; cleaned chook shit out of chook house; sorted three baskets of clean laundry; unpacked and repacked diswasher; returned to supermarket for forgotten essentials: toilet
paper, broccoli, sparklers and last shot of caffeine before The Great Famine of 2012; cooked dinner; washed Sprogs» hair and
painted Sprog 2's toenails rainbow colours for New Year's Eve party; copped grief from Husband for
painting Sprog 2's toenails (some sexualisation nonsense); went to New Year's Eve Party; reluctantly abandoned third glass of French champagne after being reminded of designated driver status; drove Husband and Sprogs home from New Year's Eve party; took Unisom; collapsed in bed at 11.50 pm.
3) Cut a piece of
wrapping paper to a width of a couple of inches shorter than your
paint chips and by the length you came up with in Step 2
Pick up a bundle of tension rods from the home improvement store,
paint them to add some flare and slide them through your
wrapping paper tubes, keeping them high up and out of the way.
The
paper on this table was given a DIY marble look by dipping crushed plastic
wrap in gray
paint, then gently daubing it onto the white -
painted top.
I have to say, what a difference a little decluttering,
paint (+ DIY accent wall w /
wrapping paper) and organization can make in an itty bitty space.
An old nappy box can become a decorative planter once it's covered (contact,
wrapping paper, fabric, faux leather, rope, spray
paint, etc).
For this project, use matte
wrapping paper making sure that
paint will adhere to the
paper.
