After years
of focusing on creating
painted wooden sculptures
of art historical themes and characters, the artist Susan Sills is returning to her first
love - drawing, and to themes closer to her heart - her
family.
Initially installed in 1908 and 1915 each «
painting» is over one hundred years in the making, they are the palimpsestic couriers
of family histories; below them people lived, celebrated, entertained, fought, made
love, bore children.
Broken dishes recall Julian Schnabel's plate

of tiny «abject pottery» serve as humble artifacts
of domesticity, archeological remnants

painting, lighthouses built, toy cars driven over it and homework done as well as many
family meals.

loved incorporating the hand -
painted vintage
family crests from Gibb's Fine Art as they added just the right amount
of color to our walls.
My great - great grandmother's old chair had numerous layers
of paint to it but it added to the charm and to the personal memories because it reflected how each generation
