I decided I would
show new
paintings in both galleries — including Die Madchen von Olmo [The
Girls from Olmo, 1981], «Orangenesser» [Orange — eater, 1981], and «Trinker» [Drinker, 1981] at Fourcade and «Adler» [Eagle, 1981 - 82] and «Frau am Strand» [Woman on the beach, 1981 - 82] at Sonnabend.
Her
paintings have been included on the sets of both television
shows and feature films - the most recent of which were Me Earl and the Dying
Girl, Southpaw and My All - American.
When John first
showed his
paintings — mostly of suburban women and
girls — at White Columns and later at Andrea Rosen right out of Yale graduate school, they were considered ironic and, in truth, kind of mean, even degrading, to his subjects.
The richly colored and energetically worked pastel is preparatory for the
painting Breton
Girls Dancing, executed during the summer of 1888 and first
shown in Paris that fall.
It's a bit of a surprise to find a Noland
show at the realist - oriented Farnsworth, best known for its holdings of
paintings by Andrew and Jamie Wyeth (although Louise Nevelson, a Rockland
girl, is strongly represented as well).
As a sign of the times, those new
paintings have taken a brutal turn — they're at once more abstract and more clearly violent, even political,
showing little black
girls defaced or wielding handguns, occasionally shooting each other dead.
For this exhibition — «P.A.» — Alan Michael, himself a former call centreworker,
shows a sequence of six
paintings which follow patterns deployed in previous recent exhibitions such as «Calvinistic
Girls» (HIGH ART, Paris) and «The Manual xx» (OHIO, Glasgow).

Corinna: There's one acceptable
painting in this
show — the
girl covering her breasts on a couch that has breasts.
Because between Aimee Heinemann's gleefully low - brow reference to Chris Crocker's emotional plea in «Alter (Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels)» (2013), with «LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE» spray
painted on a survival blanket, and Rachel Lord's tribute to the pink «
girl» Angry Bird in «Stella with flowers» (2013), THE ANGRY
SHOW already willingly rejects the «refinement, delicacy, or sensitivity» that Kent's «crass» is defined as being lacking in.
For his first solo
show (at New York's Hasted - Kraeutler gallery), the artist reimagined Johannes Vermeer's «
Girl With A Pearl Earring»
painting; only in Erizku's version, titled «
Girl With A Bamboo Earring,» the subject is a black woman wearing a gold hoop earing.
The
show features fifty - two
paintings depicting the backs of playing cards (measuring approximately 39 x 31»), culled from two hundred years of history — from a Twitter logo circa 2010 to a 1950s pinup
girl and an Indian elephant from colonial Great Britain.
The image
shows a young Indian
girl with her head lowered in contemplation and this is one of the artist's best «plate»
paintings that cover much of the surface with pieces of broken dishes.
Campbell's subjects are drawn from both nature and the man - made: The
paintings show the ephemeral light of rainbows and the radiance of young
girls as well as the spectacular light of fireworks and the mushroom cloud of an atomic bomb.

paintings at the Whitney and the Guggenheim; before her madcap plays were performed at the Judson Poets» Theater and La MaMa; before she traveled the female wrestling circuit as Rosa Carlo, the Mexican Spitfire — before all that, Rosalyn Drexler was Rosalind Bronznick, a Jewish
girl from the Bronx with a wimple of sprayed hair.
In the 90s, she commanded solo
shows in galleries in New York, Santa Monica, London and Milan, and her
paintings were included in group surveys such as My Little Pretty: Images of
Girls by Contemporary Women Artists at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago in 1997 and Young Americans 2: New American Art at the Saatchi Gallery in London in 1998.

This can be seen in his
