This study is a randomized clinical trial (RCT) with 50 mother / infant
pairs in the
intervention arm, 50
in one control
group and 25
in a third control
group.

They decide on appropriate
interventions, which can include a referral to school psychologist, family counseling,
pairing a student up with a mentor, including students
in small
groups, providing extra support after class / after school, initiating an SST process or a special education assessment, helping students get clean clothes, helping the family secure food or shelter, and any other supports that may be necessary.

Thirty - eight parent - child
pairs enrolled (28 % of 134
pairs invited)
in an evidence - based
intervention to a
group format and completed six 12 - to 16 - week
groups over 3 years.
The
intervention consisted of a curriculum (Promoting Alternative Thinking Strategies [PATHS]-RRB-, parent
groups, child social skills training
groups, parent child sharing time, home visiting, child peer
pairing, and academic tutoring and was given during school and 2 hour extracurricular enrichment programmes and
in the home.
Intervention group pairs had higher scores
in empathic responsiveness and goal - corrected partnership and lower scores on angry behavior by the child than anxious control
pairs.
Results indicated that significantly more mother — infant
pairs in the STEEP
intervention group showed secure attachment patterns
in Ainsworth's Strange Situation when the infants were 12 months of age than mother - infant
pairs in the GCWS
group.
