Being both of these, Bitcoin hit my radar almost immediately when Satoshi posted his original white
paper about Bitcoin
on October 31 2008, and subsequently the first version of the Bitcoin client software
on January 08 2009, to the
Cryptography email list.
The volumes
on display include evidence of an Elizabethan form of
cryptography: this rotating
paper volvelle, which was used as a cipher disc.
Later in 2008, a person or group using the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto published a white
paper on bitcoin to a
cryptography mailing list, explaining how the cryptocurrency would work.

On Scaling Decentralized Blockchains,» presented at the Financial

The conference, to be held
on 26 - 27 January 2017, will feature various presentations and
papers discussing «the use of formal methods, empirical analysis, and risk modelling» to evaluate the fundamental risks in blockchain networks, distributed systems and
cryptography.
