Place 1 cake layer, slipping 3 or 4 short strips of parchment
paper under edges of cake to protect the stand.
I also put strips of parchment
paper under the edges of the bottom cake to protect the plate while I frosted... I removed the parchment strips later.

If you look at the
edge of
paper under a microscope you'll see it's jagged, sort of like shark teeth.
If you are feeling adventurous you can put one hand
under the pie dough still on the wax
paper, hold one
edge of the wax
paper so that the top arm crosses over your bottom arm and flip the pie dough over top of the filling and bottom dough.
Cut 3 - inch wide strips of wax or parchment
paper and tuck them
under the perimeter of the cake layer so that the
edge of the entire cake is not touching the serving plate.
Place cooked aubergine slices on parchment
