Besides the ease with which self - published and hybrid authors can pursue
paperback and / or hardcover copies
of their
books, another avenue
of publication is predicted to gain traction in 2018: that
of the one -
of - a-kind edition.
What many aspiring authors don't know is that (1) the shelf - life
of new
books in brick and mortar bookstores is 2 - 6 weeks; (2) traditional authors get 8 - 15 % royalties vs. 70 % royalties for those self - published; (3) almost 30 %
of hardcover and
paperbacks end up in landfills; (4) the timeframe between
book contract to actual
publication at traditional houses is 18 - 24 months; and (5) agents are rarely interested in authors who only have one
book up their sleeves.

Creation House is a vanity press, and part
of my prize for winning was
publication of Gatehaven as well as free copies
of the
book and an ad in a popular Christian magazine, Creation House published the novel on March 4, 2014 in trade
paperback and as an e-
book.
I contributed towards
publication of my
book in
paperback and ebook format, and they arranged for design
of artwork with my approval, they advised me in editing the manuscript, they built me a dedicated website http://www.catherine-green.co.uk, and they took care
of all the essential preparations such as obtaining the ISBN and listing the
book on Amazon and the national
book wholesaler Gardners catalogues.
I was hesitant at first, as I still love reading hardcover and
paperback books, but the free cellular Web access and the addition
of magazine subscriptions from
publications like The New Yorker had me convinced.
Negotiated all the contributory and subsidiary rights licenses for Business and Reference
publications in hard cover and any other
paperback printings,
books, large print, mechanical and technical audio recording and all types
of motion pictures and merchandising.
